Bringing a villa with more than 300 KNX devices back from completely offline
A two-storey villa in Polo Homes, Arabian Ranches, with more than 300 KNX devices controlling 600 lights, the curtains and the air conditioning. The house also has more than 30 cameras, a 12-zone audio system and a cinema room. When the owners came to Haus Logic, the whole house was offline. The previous contractor had left without handing over the ETS project files. Haus Logic reprogrammed the entire KNX system in seven days while the family lived in the house, rewrote the ETS project and handed it over, upgraded the network, brought the cameras and the audio system back online, and added full energy monitoring.

The whole house was offline. The air conditioning was behaving erratically, dropping too cold or switching itself off, and curtains opened at random times of the day. The previous contractor had left the owners without the ETS project files for more than 300 KNX devices and 600 lights. On site, Haus Logic found a loop in the programming: several controllers kept sending commands, flooding the KNX bus, so a keypad press could be lost in the traffic. Curtain motors were wired in reverse, keypads followed no common layout, and some devices were hidden outside the automation panels. The more than 30 cameras were offline: they sat behind a Cloud Key on a poorly set up network with two routers in series, and speed tests on a 1 Gbps line gave 97 and 144 Mbps download. The audio system and its rack had been set up so poorly that the audio did not work.
Haus Logic located the hidden devices, then reprogrammed the entire KNX system from what was installed. With the programming rebuilt, the lighting, curtains and air conditioning came back under control. The reprogramming took seven days, carried out while the family was living in the house. The ETS project was rewritten and handed over to the owners. The network was upgraded, with a UniFi router and 16 access points, which brought the cameras back online; after the upgrade a Wi-Fi 6 test recorded 375 Mbps download. Every cable in the audio system was traced back by hand, the audio rack was reworked and all 12 audio zones were brought online. Haus Logic also added full energy monitoring for the owner. The house now runs in Haus Logic OS, on the wall iPads and in the app, with an account for each resident and remote access.
