Somfy Curtains and Motorized Blinds in Dubai, Integrated With KNX

Somfy in Dubai is usually sold by curtain shops; we install it as part of the villa's nervous system.

Haus Logic specifies Somfy and Silent Gliss motors for blinds and curtains, wires them into KNX, and ties shading to sun position, room temperature, and occupancy on Haus Logic's custom dashboard, so the same blinds that frame the view also shave the afternoon cooling peak before the AC has to fight it.

What We Deliver

Professional shading automation designed for Dubai's intense sunlight.

Solar Tracking

Blinds that automatically adjust throughout the day to block direct sunlight while maximizing natural light.

Night and Privacy Modes

Blackout drops at bedtime and privacy presets at dusk, automatic and per room.

Scheduled Operation

Automatic opening and closing based on time, sunrise/sunset, or occupancy.

Scene Integration

Blinds that participate in whole-home scenes, dropping for movie mode or opening for morning routines.

Climate Coordination

Integration with HVAC to reduce cooling load by blocking heat gain from windows.

App and Voice Control

Every blind on Haus Logic's custom dashboard; control from phone, wall tablet, or voice.

Powered by KNX

Our motorised blinds and curtains run on KNX. the wired automation backbone we have been certified in since 2014. Solar tracking, scenes and climate logic coordinate on a single bus.

Which Somfy Motors We Specify

For curtain tracks we specify the Somfy Glydea range; it is quiet enough for master bedrooms, handles heavy blackout drapes, and accepts wired control. For roller blinds, Roman blinds and external screens we use the Somfy Sonesse family, sized to the tube and fabric weight rather than picked off a shelf.

Each motor comes in three control flavours: wired (running on a dedicated bus), RTS (Somfy's legacy one-way radio), and io-homecontrol (Somfy's two-way radio). RTS cannot report position back; io can, but still depends on a radio gateway sitting between the motor and the rest of the villa.

In a KNX villa we default to wired motors on a Somfy animeo or KNX shutter actuator. That way every blind is a first-class citizen on the same bus as lighting and HVAC, position is always known, and there is no radio gateway to fail in five years.

Somfy on TaHoma vs Somfy on KNX

A curtain shop will usually hand over Somfy on the TaHoma app. TaHoma is a standalone Somfy hub with its own phone app; it controls Somfy motors and a small set of Somfy-friendly devices, and it talks to the cloud for remote access.

On a KNX villa we wire Somfy motors directly onto the KNX bus, so blinds become scenes alongside lighting, HVAC, audio, and security on Haus Logic's custom dashboard. One screen, one logic layer, one set of schedules, no separate Somfy app to maintain.

TaHoma is a fine starter system if Somfy is the only automation in the house. The moment lighting, climate, or security joins the project, KNX integration is the cleaner long-term answer.

Sun Tracking and Solar Shading That Cuts Cooling Load

Sun tracking uses the villa's latitude, longitude, and facade orientation to predict, hour by hour, which windows the sun is hitting. Blinds on the loaded facade drop to a calculated angle before the glass starts radiating heat into the room.

In Dubai the afternoon peak between 2pm and 5pm is where most cooling cost is made; west-facing glazing without shading can swing room temperatures by several degrees and force the AC into continuous run. Pre-emptive shading flattens that peak so the AC catches up instead of fighting.

Combined with KNX climate logic, this typically cuts cooling load by around 15% on heavily glazed villas, while preserving the view in the morning and evening when the sun is off the face.

Retrofit vs New Build

On a new build we run KNX cable and shutter actuator wiring back to the panel during first fix, so every blind drop is wired and addressable from day one. This is the cleanest path: no surface trunking, no battery motors, and full position feedback on every opening.

On a lived-in villa we usually retain existing tracks and rails, swap manual mechanisms for Somfy motors, and route control either over a slim KNX overlay or, where walls cannot be opened, on Somfy io with a KNX-io gateway. Cable routes follow ceiling voids, behind pelmets, or through existing conduits.

Either way the goal is the same: every blind ends up on the KNX bus and the Haus Logic dashboard, so a retrofit villa behaves identically to one wired from day one.
