KNX and DALI lighting control commissioning on a 32 m yacht in Abu Dhabi

Haus Logic delivers wired marine automation, KNX and DALI, for yachts as well as villas, apartments and offices. On this privately owned Mangusta 104 REV, a 31.8 metre motor yacht berthed in Abu Dhabi, Haus Logic was engaged to resolve control issues on an existing KNX and DALI lighting installation by others, operated by the crew from the SeaLux app on an iPad. The work covered system diagnostics, DALI compatibility resolution, re-programming and commissioning, returning the lighting to reliable control from the app. Haus Logic also provides annual maintenance contracts (AMC) that protect onboard lighting and control systems and minimise operational risk. The Challenge

The yacht's lighting runs on KNX with DALI drivers, installed by others and controlled by the crew from an iPad. Part of the DALI lighting had stopped responding to the control system, and replacement hardware fitted on board had not resolved it. The DALI driver layer was inconsistent: not every driver matched the rest of the installation, and replacement drivers had not been addressed or commissioned, so the control system could not manage them. The work had to be carried out on board, at the berth.

Our Solution

Haus Logic carried out diagnostics across the KNX and DALI layers, tracing the affected lighting back to its drivers and comparing it with the working installation. Driver hardware was matched to the rest of the system. A replacement DALI driver ships without a short address or group, so a control system cannot manage it until it is commissioned. Haus Logic addressed and grouped the drivers, re-programmed the affected lighting and commissioned it, then verified dimming and switching from the onboard control app.
