Whole-apartment KNX automation on Palm Jumeirah
KNX automation for a private apartment in Serenia Living on Palm Jumeirah, Dubai. A Theben KNX backbone dims all twenty lighting circuits, and DALI control lets each addressable fitting dim on its own rather than in banks. Presence detectors light the corridors and bathrooms automatically. Climate, curtains and a Sonos audio system run from iONprime keypads, a wall-mounted iPad and the Haus Logic OS app, so every room is controlled the same way from one interface. The system runs locally and keeps working when the internet does not, with secure remote access through an encrypted KNX IP router. Interior design and renders by Cedyl Design.
OngoingThe apartment is a complete fit-out where the interior design leaves no room for visible technology. The brief asked for one system covering lighting, climate, curtains, audio and network, controlled from the wall and from the phone. It had to be built on the open KNX standard so the home is never locked to one vendor, and it had to keep working locally when the internet does not.
Haus Logic engineered a Theben KNX backbone in a dedicated distribution board. Three dimming actuators cover the twenty dimmable circuits, and a DALI gateway gives each addressable fitting its own dimming channel. Presence detectors light the hallway, laundry and bathrooms on their own. Four KNX gateways put every air-conditioning zone on the same bus as the lighting. Eight quiet Somfy tracks drive the sheer and blackout curtains, including the four-track arrangement in the master bedroom. Seven Sonos amplifier zones cover the apartment and the balcony, and a UniFi network carries it all. Everything comes together in Haus Logic OS, on a flush wall-mounted iPad and in the app, and the complete ETS project file and credentials go to the client at handover.
