How does automation actually cut a DEWA bill?
Dubai's electricity pricing does the arithmetic for you. DEWA bills on a slab tariff that escalates with consumption — heavy months climb into the top Slab 4 tier at 38 fils per kWh — and cooling dominates a villa's bill for most of the year. What do you get beyond the bill?

When is home automation NOT worth it?
Honesty is part of the engineering. Full KNX automation is not worth it for a short-term rental or a property you plan to sell within a couple of years: the payback maths need an owner who stays to collect the savings, and consumer WiFi kits are honestly fine for that use — their 200–2,000 ms latency and 3–5 year product discontinuation cycles matter far less on a short horizon.
It is also the wrong tool for single-gadget wants. If all you want is one smart lock, a video doorbell or a few app-controlled bulbs, you do not need a wired bus — buy the gadget. Automation earns its cost when several systems coordinate: cooling, lighting, shading and security working from the same logic. And in a retrofit, remember that cabling access makes each point cost more than in a new build, so a staged scope — climate and lighting first, where the payback is — usually beats an everything-at-once quote.
